Jonathan Walsh is a Principal Lawyer at Australia largest plaintiff law firm, Maurice Blackburn Lawyers and leads the firms Asbestos, Silica and Occupational Diseases team. Jonathan is a recognised expert in pursuing compensation claims in Australia and New Zealand on behalf of victims of mesothelioma, asbestosis, silicosis and silica induced autoimmune conditions amongst other dust related illnesses.
Jonathan is a prominent advocate for workplace and legal reform in relation to asbestos and toxic dust exposure and works closely with unions, the medical profession and allied experts on numerous campaigns. Jonathan was the key legal advisor to Australian Council of Trade Unions campaign to successfully ban engineered stone in Australia, a law which commenced on 1 July 2024.
This year, Jonathan will be presenting on the persons who literally stand in the breach during a great hazard: Australian fire fighters. For them, the close physical exposure to asbestos during a fire means an increased chance of getting asbestos cancers later in life, and a heavy emotional toll as well.
