Bergen Municipality has experienced several cases of asbestos being found, which has resulted in buildings being evacuated and users being moved to other premises. Schools have been closed, and classes have been moved to other premises, the city hall was vacated, and museums have been closed. Throughout these experiences, we have learned a great deal about how regulations in Norway are often black-and-white: either there are no findings, or the full measures must be implemented. We have also learned how asbestos should be handled and gained insight into the fear many people feel when they learn that asbestos has been found in buildings they have stayed in.
